With the markings you would expect from wood of this age, however these tippers are carefully crafted and smooth to the touch.

This tipper has a number of ridges and dips to aid grip

Treated with Danish Oil for warmth of touch and protection of the wood.

I'm a beginning bodhran player teaching myself via YouTube and have little knowledge of what a tipper is "supposed" to be. I do know that I prefer this one to the traditional style one (solid with bulbous ends) that came with my bodhran. This tipper seems to give me more control. I can play faster, more dynamically, and more quietly. It is built solidly. After a couple of weeks of playing with it most days nothing has broken off or come loose. This tipper is definitely a quality product.
